About

I am Kristiane Bernhard-Novotny, a theoretical physicist turned science writer and editor. With my strong background in data science and data visualisation, I think it’s also fair to say that I am a data journalist.

After my doctorate in theoretical physics, I worked in a startup called gluoNNet, where I developed classical and quantum machine-learning algorithms. During this time, I also honed my skills in data analysis, data visualisation, and communication.

With this experience and missing particle physics, I started as associate editor at the CERN Courier, a journal of high-energy physics, where I can use all my skills to enjoy people with a nice read about the latest high-energy physics news. Since January 2024, I am the responsible Communications Officer for experiments and projects located at CERN’s Super Proton Synchroton, the second-largest accelerator at CERN.
